2025 New Refrigerants

Overview-

If you’re shopping for a new HVAC system, you may have heard about the upcoming 2025 refrigerant change, which will phase out R-410A in favor of more environmentally friendly alternatives like R-454B and R-32. This shift, driven by EPA regulations to reduce global warming and ozone depletion, means HVAC systems manufactured from 2025 onward will use low-GWP refrigerants. As a homeowner, this transition could affect the cost and availability of new systems, raising the question of whether to upgrade now or wait.

What this means for the consumer....

There are certainly things to be on the lookout for. R32 has been commercially advertised since Late 2012, widely used in other countries. R454b, brand new to the market.

While Breezy Buddy focuses primarily on the best bang for your buck, there are other considerations to who you choose to install your HVAC system. Like, availability of phased out refrigerant and parts as these new standards begin to take place.

Here is a list of manufactures using R32-

Daikin has been at the forefront of this shift, integrating R-32 across a wide range of residential, light-commercial, and applied products in North America. Notable offerings include the ATMOSPHERA single-zone ductless heat pump, the Rebel Applied rooftop system, and the Trailblazer AGZ-F air-cooled scroll chiller. Daikin's adoption of R-32 is driven by its lower GWP and enhanced energy efficiency compared to R-410A. Daikin+2Daikin America+2PR Newswire+2Daikin Internet+4Daikin Applied+4Daikin+4

GREE has also embraced R-32, particularly in its mini-split systems. The company highlights benefits such as up to 13% increased capacity and 5% improved efficiency. GREE's transition plan includes phasing out R-410A products and fully adopting R-32 by the end of 2024. Gree Comfort

Lennox is updating its product lineup to include R-32 for ductless systems and R-454B for whole-home, ducted solutions. This move aligns with the company's commitment to providing environmentally friendly and efficient HVAC options. PR Newswire+2Lennox HVAC Solutions+2Daikin America+2

These manufacturers' adoption of R-32 reflects a broader industry trend toward sustainable refrigerants that meet upcoming environmental regulations.
