The "Blue Light" truth...

Updated: May 28

People often wonder if the upsell of the "blue light", bigger filters and air purifiers for your homes HVAC system work. The short answer is..... YES!

There are 3 layers to this so check it out,

Layer I-

Filtration (Air Filter) is the most crucial part to keeping particulates out of the home. A standard 1" filter is better than nothing, but most contractors will offer a 4 or 5" option. These options often come at an additional cost, but worth it!

It will reduce the number of debris clogging your indoor coil which will save you money on your electric bill and keep your system more efficient.

They are typically replaced every 4-6 months (check filter instruction) in turn is one less thing to worry about.

Lastly, anyone with allergies will benefit with less particulates floating around in the air.

Layer II-

Ultraviolet Light (UV System AKA Blue Light) is a bulb installed in your Air Handler OR indoor unit to prevent the buildup of bacterial growth. In essence, your indoor unit is a very dark, damp environment. A perfect breeding ground for bacterial growth. THE IMPORTANT PART!! These bulbs are only effective where its light will shine directly over. You obviously don't want to install 50 of them but the important components that can benefit are the Evaporator Coil & Blower Wheel.

Layer III-

In duct air Purifiers (Located on our websites "filters" page are great for those who are immune compromised, sensitive to odors, particulates, mildew or just air quality in general.

We will cover more on indoor air quality in a later post, but these three layers are crucial when it comes to keeping your system clean, efficient and alive.

So, the next time a Comfort Advisor or salesperson brings this up, listen and work this into your quote.

PRO-TIP - most of the time these can be negotiated in your price at no cost and add a huge benefit to your home.
